China in Missouri 2009

Thanks to the continued generosity of the Freeman Foundation, the International Education Consortium is able for the ninth time to offer teachers an intensive seminar on China whose centerpiece is the opportunity to travel for over two weeks in China. From January to June 2009, up to 15 teachers of elementary, middle and high school classes in social studies, language arts, and fine arts will study and experience China under the guidance of experts in St. Louis and Beijing. A major portion of the work of the project will take place when the teachers return home from China when they will work to expand their curriculum on China and take part in disseminating the results of their work to colleagues in St. Louis as well as across Missouri and nationally. Sheila Onuska will direct the project.
Project
activities begin in January 2009 with an intensive seminar on China
that will take place during the spring semester. Attendance
at the seminar meetings (up to six late-afternoon sessions plus two
full days requiring released time from the participants' districts)
is required in order to be included in the travel portion of the
project. The three-week trip to China customarily starts in
mid-June. Curriculum revision and other dissemination activities
will occur throughout the 2009-2010 school year.
