Public Review Committee Begins Work at Special School District
A review of the Special School District, which is required under state legislation approved in 1996, is underway. Under Senate Bill 687, a Public Review Committee is appointed every four years to review the operations of the Special School District (SSD) and to make recommendations for improvement. Areas of review include SSD’s structure, governance, administration, financial management, delivery of services, and cooperation with partner school districts.
The committee plans to solicit information from the public and interested parties in a variety of ways, including at three public forums and at the beginning of each regularly scheduled meeting.
The following public forums will be held:
- 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, SSD’s Central Administrative Offices, 12110 Clayton Road in Town & Country
- 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, SSD’s Southview School, 11660 Eddie and Park Road in Crestwood
- 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, SSD’s Northview School, 1520 Derhake Road in
Florissant
In addition, public comments will be accepted by the committee during the first 15 minutes of each regularly scheduled meeting. Each meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at SSD Central Administrative Offices, 12110 Clayton Road in Town & Country. Meetings are scheduled on the following Wednesdays.

The PRC has nine members who are selected by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the SSD Parent Advisory Council and the SSD Governing Council.

Heskett is chairing the committee. Booker is vice-chair and Oswald was named secretary. This is the fourth PRC appointed since the legislation was enacted. Reports were issued by three previous committees in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
The committee is expected to issue its report later this year.
