CSD Scholarship Awards Guidelines
The CSD Scholarship Awards were established to assist highly deserving teachers continue their professional development. There are four scholarships awarded annually, and they are as follows:


Robert D. Elsea Scholarship—an award established in honor of Dr. Elsea, who served as CSD’s Executive Director for 21 years (1966-1987).


Gerald D. Troester Scholarship—an award established in honor of Dr. Troester, who served as CSD’s Executive Director for 5 years (1987-1992).


Gary K. Wright Insurance Trust Scholarship—an award established in honor of Dr. Wright, who served as CSD’s Executive Director for 9 years (1992-2001).


CSD Health Insurance Trust Scholarship*—an award sponsored by the school districts participating in CSD’s Health Insurance Trust.


The following are guidelines for submitting an application:
1. Full-time teachers employed by CSD school districts are eligible to be considered
    for these awards.
2. A school district may, at its discretion, nominate four teachers from the district
    Normally, one of the four will be the district’s nominee for “Missouri Teacher of
    the Year.”
3. The awards shall consist of a $1,500 stipend that must be used to further the
    recipient’s professional development, with emphasis on improving student
    performance. The award may not be used for coursework toward an advanced degree.
4. The recipient has two calendar years (24 months) in which to comply with attendance
    or participation in a conference/workshop, to complete educational travel, or to attend
    another professional development activity.
5. The awards shall be given on an annual basis. The scholarship program will be
    reviewed every five years. Its continuance will be determined by availability of funds.
6. In addition to the $1,500 award, the recipient shall have his/her name placed on a
    plaque and the Executive Director of CSD shall be the custodian of this plaque.
7. The Board of Directors will annually establish a selection committee to review the
    applications and select recipients for the award.
8. The awards shall be presented by the Board of Directors at the annual Spring
    Conference Meeting of School Board Members and Superintendents.
9. Rules governing eligibility:
        a. All nominations must be in writing and submitted to the Board of Directors on or
            before February 1.
        b. Each nomination shall be accompanied by a completed application and resume
            showing scholarly achievements, personal accomplishments and professional
            qualifications. All applications must include a letter of support from the
            superintendent. No exceptions.
